A fine century by former Surrey captain Stewart Walters proved the principle difference between the two sides as visitors Glamorgan clinched a narrow seven-run win over Kent in the first of two pre-season friendlies at Canterbury.
Australia-born Walters featured in an opening stand of 97 with Graham Wagg (54) but went on to boss the show by scoring an excellent 144 in Glamorgan’s 40-over total of 266 for six.
Kent’s new overseas signing Brendan Nash took two for 30 with his left-arm seamers while young fast bowler Matt Coles picked up two for 47 from his eight overs.
On-loan Middlesex opener Scott Newman went without scoring as Kent slumped to 35 for three in reply and scoreboard pressure continued to tell thereafter as the home run chase just ran out of steam.
Sam Billings, Sam Northeast and Nash all made it into the 40s before they perished, while Coles and Geraint Jones reached the 30s before they too departed, leaving Kent without a win from their two opening warm-up games.
