Glamorgan have completed the signing of Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques as their overseas player for the first part of the season as cover for Marcus North, who is staying in Australia to attend the birth of his second child.
Henriques, who has played two one-day internationals and a T20 game for Australia, is well known to Glamorgan’s head of elite performance Matthew Mott, having worked with him when he was head coach at New South Wales.
Earlier this year, Henriques was man of the match in Sydney Sixes’s Big Bash final victory against the Perth Scorchers when, opening the batting, he scored a match-winning 70 in just 41 balls.
“I am delighted that Moises will be joining us for the first part of the season,” said Mott. “The 2012 fixtures will see us play nearly a third of our County Championship matches within the first five weeks of the season.
“Given the probability of bowler-friendly conditions, we have opted for an all-rounder, which will provide us with some additional options as we look to start the season in a positive manner.
“Moises is an extremely talented cricketer who I have known for seven years – I look forward to his arrival later this month.”
Henriques will arrive in time to make his debut in Glamorgan’s three-day friendly against Oxford MCCU on March 31.
“I am thrilled to be joining Glamorgan – they are an ambitious county and I look forward to working with Matthew Mott again,” said Henriques.
“The first few weeks of the season will be hugely important for all counties and I hope to make a positive contribution for Glamorgan as they look to start the season on the front foot.”
