Adams steps up Surrey’s pre-season work with ‘Hell Fridays’

Surrey have announced plans for three pre-season fixtures in March before embarking on their first-class fixtures for 2012.

Cricket manager Chris Adams and captain Rory Hamilton-Brown will take their players to Chelmsford to start their pre-season plans with a two-day game against Essex on Wednesday March 21 and Thursday March 22. The format of the game has yet to be decided.

The Brown Caps will then travel west to take on Somerset over four days at Taunton from Monday March 26 through to Thursday March 29.

The final match before the start of the LV= County Championship is a three-day first-class clash between Surrey and Leeds/Bradford MCCU, taking place at the Kia Oval on Saturday March 31, Sunday April 1 and Monday April 2.

In the meantime, those Surrey players remaining in the UK continue to be put through their paces with a series of training days at The Oval’s indoor school.

Their punishing training sessions, which include boxercise sessions, skipping and press-ups, conclude each week with what the players have dubbed ‘Hell Fridays’ – a conditioning session that includes a series of timed ‘bleep tests’ aimed at raising stamina levels across the board.
