Middleton steps up following departure of Ayling

Tony Middleton will work with Hampshire’s first team this year following the departure of bowling coach Jon Ayling.

Ayling, a former Hampshire all-rounder, has left to take on the role of cricket professional at Dauntsey’s School in Wiltshire.

Hampshire will be advertising for a replacement bowling coach with Middleton stepping up to work alongside manager Giles White.

As academy director, former Hampshire batsman Middleton oversaw the development of several of the county’s current first-team squad.

The likes of Jimmy Adams, James Vince, Danny Briggs, Chris Wood, Michael Bates, Liam Dawson and James Tomlinson all came through the academy under Middleton.

Former Hampshire wicketkeeper Bobby Parks, who has been the county’s wicketkeeping/fielding coach in recent years, replaces Middleton as academy director. Parks will be assisted by Hampshire Cricket Board coach Charlie Freeston.
