Sainsbury’s to move in at the St Lawrence Ground

Kent have agreed to lease a rental space at their historic St Lawrence Ground headquarters in Canterbury to Sainsbury’s. The arrangement will see a Sainsbury’s Local store open during the next few months, with the creation of approximately 25 new jobs.

The Sainsbury’s Local store will be positioned at the front of the ground off the Old Dover Road. It will be located within the club’s new administration building which is currently under construction.

Sainsbury’s Locals are small convenience shops which serve the immediate area, providing a convenient place for people living locally to walk to in order to top up their shopping. They offer a range of fresh foods, groceries and household products.

Jamie Clifford, the Kent chief executive, said: “The club is very pleased to have secured Sainsbury’s as a long term tenant for the new convenience store space within the administration building. Building work is well advanced and we very much look forward to welcoming them to the ground.

“The long term nature of this partnership is very important to us as we continue to strive for long term financial stability. In addition, the increased footfall at the St Lawrence Ground should help raise the profile of everything else the club does throughout the year.”

Kent’s new partnership with Sainsbury’s is the latest initiative in the club’s radical redevelopment of the St Lawrence Ground, following the sale of two parcels of land for housing,  which has already seen the installation of floodlights, the impressive redesign of both the Chiesman Pavilion and the Les Ames Stand and significant enhancement of general spectator viewing areas which includes new banking.
