Revised New Road hotel plans go for council approval

Worcestershire are set to submit revised plans for a hotel development on the Severn side of New Road to Worcester City Council before Christmas.

The county are putting the finishing touches to the plans, in partnership with Premier Inns, for the development which have been modified to provide three conferencing and bar facilities that can be used by the club.

Worcestershire aim to have the final plans completed next week so that they can be submitted to the council before the Christmas break. The hope is that the plans will go before the council’s planning committee for approval in the spring.

The original plans, submitted 18 months ago, were for a basic hotel with few facilities that could be used by the county cricket club.

The new plans are expected to include facilities that can be used by Worcestershire on match days and be utilised as a conference venue the rest of the year with visitors staying on site.

“The new plans are for a three floor development with function facilities, kitchens and executive suites,” said Worcestershire chief executive David Leatherdale.

“We are putting the final touches to the plans at the moment but we are aiming to submit the revised plans to the council by Christmas.”
