Glamorgan vice-captain Jim Allenby has agreed a two-year contract extension which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2013 season.
There is a further option for 2014 for the Australian-born all-rounder who will captain Glamorgan in the Friends Life t20 next year.
“I’m delighted to commit myself to Glamorgan Cricket for the long-term,” said Allenby. “I’m really looking forward to leading the Welsh Dragons in the t20 competition in 2012, as well as acting as second-in-command to club captain Mark Wallace in the LV=County Championship and the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition.”
Allenby had been one of four players including Wallace, new overseas player Marcus North and Gareth Rees who were interviewed for the role of captaincy vacated by Alviro Petersen at the end of the 2011 campaign.
“Jim is an integral part of the Glamorgan team and we are delighted that he has made this commitment to Glamorgan Cricket for the foreseeable future,” said Colin Metson, Glamorgan’s managing director of cricket.
Meanwhile, Alex Jones, Glamorgan Cricket’s highly promising left-arm bowler, has signed a new two-year contract with the Welsh county.
The 22-year-old has been on a development contract with Glamorgan for the past four years, during which time the Bridgend-born bowler has completed his degree at UWIC.
He has now signed his first full-time professional contract which will see him with the Welsh club in 2012 and 2013.
