Allenby confirmed as Glamorgan’s T20 captain

Jim Allenby has been named as Glamorgan captain for the Friends Life t20 campaign in 2012 and also as club vice-skipper for next season.

Allenby has been given the twin responsibility after firmly cementing himself in the Welsh county’s first team since his move from Leicestershire in 2009.

“I will be delighted to lead Glamorgan in the Friends Life t20 as well as acting as second-in-command to club captain Mark Wallace in the LV County Championship and Clydesdale Bank 40 competition,” said the 29-year-old Australian-born all rounder.

“There were some promising signs in our t20 games in 2011, several of which went to the final over. I look forward to building on this progress during 2012 and converting the near-misses into victories.

“During my time with the Leicestershire, we won the t20 competition in 2006. I also appeared twice at Twenty20 finals day and I’m already looking forward to drawing of this experience when leading the Welsh Dragons in 2012.

“It would be fantastic to appear in a third Finals Day, and where better than the Swalec Stadium in 2012.”
