Warwickshire all-rounder Chris Woakes faces another busy winter following his inclusion in the England Performance Programme squad for trips to South Africa and Sri Lanka.
Woakes has just completed a hectic 12-month schedule in which he went to Australia with the EPP, returned to make his senior international debut after Christmas and then went to the Caribbean with the England Lions before coming back on the eve of the domestic season.
Woakes will be off on his travels again next month when he goes to India with England’s one-day squad and he will then spend three weeks with the EPP squad at the National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough in November before the EPP fast bowlers fly to Potchefstroom for a training camp.
Woakes can then expect to be away again in the New Year as England Lions are scheduled to tour Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The EPP squad also includes Leicestershire pair Nathan Buck and James Taylor and Woakes’s Warwickshire team mate Boyd Rankin, the Ireland fast bowler who is now eligible to play for England. Rankin made his Lions debut against Sri Lanka A at Northampton last month.
Warwickshire opener Varun Chopra, Worcestershire batsman Moeen Ali, Leicestershire off-spinner Jigar Naik and Northamptonshire batsman Alex Wakely have all been included in a Potential England Performance Programme squad for a training camp in Sri Lanka followed by a match play element.
