Glamorgan have managed to extend Simon Jones’ loan spell for a further two weeks. After his initial month has ended, Jones will now be available for all forms of cricket until July 31.
The former England pace bowler’s month-long stint was due to end on July 20 but Glamorgan and Jones’s parent club Hampshire reached a deal over the weekend to increase his stay by a fortnight.
Jones will be eligible for the county’s next three games starting with the Clydesdale Bank 40 day-night clash against Essex at Chelmsford on July 20.
After that he will be available for the Swansea Festival at the end of July – an LV County Championship match against Northamptonshire and a CB40 clash with Nottinghamshire.
“We are delighted that Hampshire have agreed to extend Simon’s loan period by a further fortnight,” said Glamorgan’s managing director of cricket Colin Metson. “Simon has been an important element of our attack in the Friends Life t20 competition.
“We are still in the mix to qualify for the semi-finals of the Clydesdale Bank 40 and, with several important matches coming up in the next couple of weeks, we look forward to Simon continuing his good form with the ball.”
Jones figured in ten of Glamorgan’s 16 Friends Life t20 campaign, taking a total of 10 wickets. He returned to Glamorgan after claiming he was not getting enough game-time at the Rose Bowl.
