Worcestershire have further extended Ben Scott’s loan spell at New Road and are expected to attempt to sign the Middlesex wicketkeeper on a permanent deal for next season.
Scott, 29, spent the first half of last season on loan with Worcestershire until Ben Cox had completed his studies at Bromsgrove School.
But Cox’s poor early season form led to him being demoted to the seconds and Scott being recalled on another loan spell in late April.
Scott, who had two seasons with Surrey in 2002 and 2003, has been in excellent form both behind the stumps and with the bat since he returned to New Road.
The final details of his latest loan extension have been agreed and Worcestershire are keen to add him on a full contract for next season if they can find the cash to sign him.
Meanwhile Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal will make his County Championship debut for Worcestershire against Yorkshire at Scarborough on Monday July 11.
Ajmal was due to make his debut in the competition against Hampshire at New Road last month but his arrival in England was delayed by paperwork problems in processing his visa application.
Ajmal replaces Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan against Yorkshire with batsman Vikram Solanki set to return after he missed the Friends Life t20 matches against Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire because of a hamstring injury.
