Eng v SL live: Strauss falls early, Lord’s, day one, morning

Steve Finn plays as expected, two changes for Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s captain Tillakaratne Dilshan produced the first shock of the second Test by putting England into bat at a ground that has been batsman-friendly in recent years.

Sri Lanka made two changes to their bowling line-up, the experienced seamer Dilhara Fernando coming in after recovering from a knee injury along with left-armer Chanaka Welegedara. Spinner Ajantha Mendis and seamer Thisara Perera were the men left out.

Steven Finn replaced the injured James Anderson as expected to complete England’s giant pace attack an maybe the height of that bowling unit informed Dilshan’s decision to field first.

But they struck early, Andrew Strauss lbw to the Welegedara at the end of the third over for four as he tried to turn the ball through the leg side.
