Mott arrival in UK suffers delay

New Glamorgan coach Matthew Mott’s arrival in the UK has been delayed until the eve of the club’s opening County Championship clash against Leicestershire at Grace Road starting on April 8.

Mott, the former New South Wales coach, had been due to arrive at the Swalec Stadium on March 26 but has been held up by visa issues.

With Mott expected not to arrive from Down Under until Thursday, April 7, new captain Alviro Petersen is set to pick the Glamorgan team for the Division Two clash.

Mott, who guided Australian side New South Wales Blues to Sheffield Shield glory in his first year as coach in 2008, has signed a three-year deal as Glamorgan’s coach.

He and managing director of cricket Colin Metson form Glamorgan’s new coaching team, which has replaced former director of cricket Matthew Maynard following a winter of upheaval at the Swalec Stadium that also saw the resignation of ex-captain Jamie Dalrymple and president Peter Walker.
