Supporters' generosity boosts Brooks

Northamptonshire seamer Jack Brooks is off to India in the New Year thanks to a generous donation from the county’s Supporters Club.

The Northants Supporters Club has donated £1,000 towards the cost of sending the highly-rated Brooks to Chennai for six weeks where he will attend an academy run by former Australia fast bowler Dennis Lillee.

The presentation of the money was made during the Supporters Club annual Christmas lunch at Wantage Road.

“When we heard that Jack could have this opportunity, we decided to help sponsor his trip. Hopefully our donation will help one of the club’s brightest young talents,” said Trevor Bailey, chairman of the Supporters Club.

A delighted Brooks said: “I am hugely grateful to the Supporters Club for donating this money to help me get to India. I hope this trip will prove to be massively beneficial to my career.”

Brooks, 26, made his first-class debut for Northamptonshire in 2009 having previously played for Oxfordshire in the Minor Counties Championship.

Last season was a breakthrough one for Brooks as he finished as Northamptonshire’s leading County Championship wicket-taker with 37 in 14 matches.
